Mrs Shelley's Antics!
Hhhiiiyyyaaa!!!
Oh my goodness, a spaghetti bolognese dish for dinner. I have to say, this would be my death row meal. I absolutely love a good spag bol and would have it every day if I could. You can make this recipe many different ways and can use a jar sauce. I missed out mushrooms today because my son does not like the texture of a mushroom in his mouth. I usually cook some and leave his without but today I could not be bothered so we went mushroomless and that is ok. I was in a good mood!
I always say have fun in your kitchen. Don't make mealtimes boring and a chore. Go for it, let loose.
I shocked myself today and used fresh garlic. I was not feeling lazy and thought to myself "Mrs Shelley go fresh and get some garlic cloves", so I did. What about it? I know I advocate for a dry granule but today I am not. Do you know what my least fave thing to do is with garlic? it's crushing it. I need to get myself a new crushing device. I will let you know when I find one or of course you can message me any great ones. I never claim to be a professional. I just cook for my family.
I like to grate my carrots in meals to hide the veg from the kids. They have no idea and I leave the skin on the carrot whilst I grate so they get extra goodness without knowing. It's not my favourite job though, grating. I know there is technology to grate but I think it causes a lot of washing up so I just grate the normal way which is manual, building up my muscles that never build up. I try though and that's all that matters. On the subject of vegetables, I bought celery and did not use it till a week later and it went floppy but it still cooked perfectly. What is the harm of a floppy veg? Nothing. It had not gone off. Some tell me to stick the stem of celery in a glass of water and it will crisp up but I didn't. I might do that sometime.
When I add tomato paste, most recipes say add a spoonful but I throw my whole 95g tin in. Why? Firstly more flavour and secondly I probably am not making another dish with tomato paste in for a while so it would be sat in my fridge doing nothing then would go into the bin. Nah, just chuck it in. Be a devil, go on. I added water into mine because it was a bit thick with the size of the vegetables I put in. I will let you judge whether you need to put it in yours or not. Don't just chuck it in. Assess and see whether it is needed. Just because I put it in, you don't have to.
I hope you enjoy this version of spaghetti bolognese. It may end up being your death row meal too.
Love Mrs Shelley
