Fun Cooking with a Comedic Twist!

Who is Mrs Shelley?
Hi, I’m Michelle – but most people online know me as Simply Mrs Shelley.
I’ve been cooking since the age of 12, when my mum went back to work and declared, “Michelle, you’ll be the first one home, so you have to cook dinner!” I was thrilled. I’d already spent plenty of time helping my mum in the kitchen and I loved the idea of creating meals for my family.
Growing up, our dinners were on repeat – Thursday meant sausage casserole (often with my nan helping) and Saturdays was always lasagne while watching Beverly Hills 90210 or Baywatch. My dad topped absolutely everything with HP Sauce and I remember thinking, “When I have my own family, I’ll make sure dinner never gets boring.”
That is exactly what I’ve done. Cooking for me is about variety, fun and flavour – not the same meals week after week.
My Cooking Style
I’m a chaotic but joyful cook who loves throwing ingredients together, dancing around the kitchen and seeing what happens. Neat plating isn’t my thing - it’s all about the taste! I focus on budget-friendly meals made with everyday ingredients because I believe great food doesn’t have to cost a fortune (better to save the money for travel than fancy mince). As a slow cooker fanatic, nothing makes me happier than a “bung it in and forget about it” meal waiting for me when I walk through the door.
Why I Share My Food Online
I started creating cooking videos as a way to bring fun into the home. My videos are full of energy, facial expressions, music and a bit of silliness. Cooking doesn’t have to be serious – it should be enjoyable. I want to show people that anyone can make tasty, budget-friendly meals without stress.
I often get asked, “But how do you know what to cook?” The truth is, after decades in the kitchen, it just comes naturally. If you struggle with inspiration, that’s where I come in – I’ll share simple, affordable ideas to get you excited about dinner again.
A Little About Me
I’m 50 (but definitely not dead yet!), married for over 20 years to a man who drives me mad but he’s mine and we have three children together. Originally from the UK, I’ve been living in Perth, Australia for over a decade.
When I’m not cooking, you’ll probably find me enjoying a glass of wine, having a laugh or planning my next adventure. I’m also a nurse by trade, a trained actor with experience in film, TV, and Theatre – but honestly, I love making food videos the most.
So grab a glass of something nice, explore my recipes, and let’s have some fun in the kitchen together.
