Roast Beef Dinner

This place is one of our faves. We always go here for pre drinks before a sporting match or a concert being held at the nearby Optus Stadium.

The last time we came here, we noticed a sign on the bar saying Sunday Roast Beef dinner at the Royal on the Waterfront for $32. We said we will have to come back on a Sunday and try it. We booked a table through their website to ensure we got a table. The plate was loaded with thick cut beef and was accompanied with carrots, peas, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire Pudding and Skirlie. At first, we thought "is that a frozen Yorkshire Pudding"? Not that it matters if it was. When you cut through it, it was definitely home made. The dinner had Skirlie on it and we had never had that before. I thought it was stuffing until I tasted it.

Skirlie is a traditional Scottish dish made from oatmeal, onions and fat. The gravy arrived in a separate pot on the plate and it was nice and thick. This delicious meal was all washed down with a nice glass of prosecco for me and a pint of Guinness for Mr Shelley. The service was impeccable. The waiter said if we want more gravy, to let them know.

The Royal on the Waterfront is a beautiful place situated in East Perth overlooking water and the iconic Optus Stadium. You can either sit inside or out. We sat outside and we recommend to do that for the view, even if it is hot, as there are shades over the tables and water spritzers to keep cool.

You can also order from the comfort of your own table using a QR code. We have the Pass app which has numerous venues listed on there and we earn points which turn in to money off food and drinks in the future.

I give this food 4.5 Shelley stars out of 5. There was nothing bad about it at all. Everything tasted beautiful, but there was just too much Skirlie for Mrs Shelley. That is not a complaint at all as I have a small appetite and was overwhelmed with the amount of Skirlie, whereas others would eat it all up no problem. We enjoyed the views and took everything in. We were so relaxed, watching all the boats come in and the occupants jumping out for lunch.

We will keep going back again and again to this venue. We hope you enjoy your visit and please comment to let us know how you enjoyed it.

Love Mr and Mrs Shelley.
